In a report from The New Dawn out of Liberia two Ebola patients who were allegedly pronounced dead, and on their way to burial, rose from the dead. Local residents are afraid the ladies, one in her 60’s and the other in her 40’s, are ghosts. I’m guessing they aren’t up on their popular zombie lore in that area.
This phenomenon isn’t entirely new, and it’s quite possible that these ladies are just the lucky victims of poor medical practice that declared them dead when they weren’t. If that’s the case then thank Gods they did wake up…that’s an entirely different horror subgenre.
Anyway, the phenomenon of people declared dead and rising from the grave has been around since humans started burying their loved ones. It hasn’t only been error on medical professional’s part either. There’s a widely held belief in many cultures that voodoo and other ancient religious and magical practices can create zombies. Reports of the dead coming back to life have been a part of popular, and local cultures for generations.
Is this another sign of the pending ZA? Are we going to see a spread of rising dead starting with the recent outbreaks across the ocean? Who knows…
