Marvel recently announced some huge changes that will shake up the Marvel Universe as we know it, all starting in May with Secret Wars #1. To hear them talk in the press release, however, these changes have been coming for quite some time now, as story lines start to merge and intersect into what promises to be quite an interesting eight months or so.
From what we gather watching the press release, events will kick off when the Marvel Universe, also known as 616, and the Ultimate Universe collide and the heroes have eight hours to set things right or everything falls apart, leading to Battleworld, a place where different timelines and universes all battle each other to find out who comes out to form what will become the new Marvel Universe. Obviously they fail to fix things, otherwise we wouldn’t have Secret Wars. According to the folks over at Marvel this will be the new reality, no take-backs, no do-overs, and we’ll love it, hate it, and everything in between.
If you haven’t been following all the major story lines leading up to this there will be a Secret Wars 0 out on Free Comic Book Day (May 3) to help get readers up to speed on what’s going on before everything kicks off. We’ll see a lot of new titles start, and old titles disappear, and you can get a glimpse of that looking over the Battleworld map here (just click on the ‘enter battleworld’ button). You can also view the press conference where all of this was announced, and see some previews of the new titles coming out of this event.
