Welcome ladies and gents, to another month and another wonderful interview. As many know we like to showcase women who game, whether it be PC, console, or tabletop. It’s been a long-held belief that women don’t game, or when they do it’s kids games that they play. Once again we are shining a light on that as an awful myth. Women love gaming just as much as men do, and they like the same kinds of games. Give a big welcome to another of the awesome ladies over at Real Women of Gaming, Queen of Hell!
Q. What is your Gamertag and does it bear any special meaning?
I have several tags I go by. Queen of Hell being one. I use this most often because well…life is hell and I’ve made myself the Queen of my own personal hell. If its not going to be perfect, I’m going to rule that shit! Otherwise, people can hit me up on Xbox with Maezy30, or I can also be found some places as Queen of the Desecrated or….Amazon Monkey. No. I wont elaborate. π
Q. We are getting a lot of readers outside the U.S. If you donβt mind everyone knowing, what country do you hail from?
I’m in the USA as well…Iowa to be specific. No. Not potatoes. Corn. LOL
Q. Gamer guild/clan affiliation?
I try to not go into any specific group or affiliation, but if I had to choose, since RPG is my forte, I’d have to say Clan Ravnos. π
Q. Console or PC? Reason for preference?
Can I pick both? Honestly thats a horrible question. LOL. Both have their own good points and bad points that make them unique.
Q. When did you start gaming?
I dont even remember. Atari? Ha! So, 80s? But seriously into it about 20 or so years ago.
Q. What got you started in the world of gaming?
I’m not even really sure. I was on my ex’s computer, and I was messing around while he was busy, and found an rpg chat room. This was before the WWW for those of you that makes any sense to….LOL. And it was all fun from there.
Q. What is your favorite game?
All time has got to be Mortal Kombat. I’m a MK girl at heart. Even bought one of the code books back in the day….though its disappeared. >.<
Q. Currently playing?
Ever ongoing RPGs, and am in the middle of Dragon Age, and have been eyeing a few others to play.
Q. Most anticipated future release?
I’m really not sure. I love most games….but any time I see any release of any first person shooter game or a horror game I give an inner fangirl squeal.
Q. Build your own or off-the-shelf PC? Any reason for preference?
I have off the shelf….but….preference is build. If I could afford it…and yes I’ve priced it….my ideal pc would be in the 4 to 5 figures in cost.
Q. Favorite game type?
I guess I kinda answered that didnt I? First person games. I like to be engrossed in the games. Myst. Dragon Age. Silent Hill. These games give you more of that sort of feel than allot of them.
Q. Favorite game character and what drew you to them?
Wow. I’ve never really thought of it. I think this is another where I dont necessarily have a favorite. I like most of them.
Q. Have you experienced any issues related to being a female gamer and can you share a memorable good or bad experience?
I’ve had good and bad experiences. I think the most memorable good is when a bunch of girls that all roleplay together met up and had a day out together. That was unity. Friendship. I wouldnt have met these people that have become some of my best friends if it wasnt for gaming. I love them and they’re hopefully going to be in my life for a good long time….it gave that to me.
Q. What advice would you give you ladies who are worried about sharing their love of gaming, or experiencing negativity because they have?
Its understandable to be worried about negativity. But hey….your next breath doesnt depend on if another person agrees with what you do. Dont let them bring you down. I’ve gotten those…..looks. Those….wtf is she effin crazy…..looks. Or if I start to talk about something, the glazed eye look. I’ve even had people act like because I’m a chick I dont know what I’m doing. Forget them. Just blow off what they say and believe in yourself because at the end of the day, the only person you have to answer to is yourself.
Q. Finally, for fighting games like MK or RPGs do you choose/create characters based on a look, style, gender, powers, or just an idea that strikes when thinking of playing?
I love this one. Maybe because I love MK. π And I love creating new chicks for my rpgs. I dont tend to create them on any specific anything when I create a character for an RPG…and I dont choose them for any specific look, or style when I’m playing them. Now…for RPGs, I’ll create them as to whatever mood I’m in, but in majority, they are female because I’m not comfortable playing a male character in RPG. I just dont feel I’m that great at it, or that I understand the male mind well enough to convincingly play one. Now, for fighting games, I do like to play the females more….because they kick ass!! True, their outfits sometimes make me want to roll eyes, but powers and whatnot fucking rock. Sindel in MK….hell yes! Or Millena, Kitana? LOVE IT! LOL. But I also do play some of the male characters as well, because theres times where their powers are fun to play as well. Its all in how much fun it is to play for the games in that aspect.
So that does it for our feature this month. Great advice, and insight from Queen of Hell, and we need more. Submissions are easy, just email us, tell us a little about yourself and the gaming you like, and we’ll add your wisdom to all the others. If you know a lady who games, tell her to stop on by, we’d love to chat with her.
