We finally received our Nomad Chargekey for our mini-USB devices including our Andriod phones. This small, and extremely useful tool comes from a company called Nomad. The small company first produced a tool called a chargecard, which you can probably guess is a phone charging cord the size of a credit card. Their second product, no longer than the average car key, is a step up in convenience and design as far as I’m concerned. The tool is flexible and small so you don’t have to worry about it jabbing into your leg. It connects securely to your device and the USB port, so much so that your phone can hang from the port without falling out. My only complain on that front (and it’s more the fault of my laptop) is the USB I normally charge at is upside down so to have my phone screen up I have to twist the chargekey. That’s a testament to the tool though, as the chargekey can be bent or twisted and still does it’s job without breaking. Not to mention, it comes with a lifetime warranty.
My only real problem, that also had a silver lining, was the shipping method. Free shipping is by U.S. Postal service sans tracking number. The first chargekey didn’t arrive after two weeks and I emailed customer service (here comes the silver lining). I was contacted back right away, asking to verify my address so they could send another one. No questions asked, and I certainly didn’t ask for or expect a replacement, I just asked if there was a way to track it. Two more weeks goes by and still no chargekey so I emailed them again, and asked if I could pay extra for shipping with tracking. Instead they footed the bill for tracked shipping on a third unit and three days later I had my new toy. I’m not sure what happened between them and me, but the company took care of it without question.
So, how does it work? Great. Honestly there’s no bells and whistles, no lights, or moving parts to gauge. You plug it in, and it does what it’s supposed to. It twists and bends without causing any problems, and holds securely in both ports. It’s also useful for any device that connects from a micro USB (or iDevices if you’re one of those) to a USB port. My wife can hook her camera up to the PC with it. We could charge our kindle, or synch data between devices and a PC. It lets you do all the things you normally need a long cord for, all on your keychain. I can see it being extremely handy for people who travel, or even those who are away from home all day and don’t want to carry a cord in their pocket. Definitely one of the best little gadgets I’ve bought in awhile.
