Welcome to another Gamer Lady of the Month feature, with another of the lovely ladies from Real Women of Gaming. Get on over to their site, take a look around, read some great articles, and help support what they are doing with “You’re Not Alone.” This month are pages are graced by KinkedNitemare, and some of her wonderful thoughts on this hobby we all love. We do hope you enjoy! One thing before you dive in, we are getting close to the end of the queue of awesome gaming women scheduled for this feature. If you know any lovely women who game, or are such, and would like to be featured here, please drop us a line at email@example.com. So, without further ado, enjoy!
Q. What is your Gamertag and does it bear any special meaning?
KinkedNitemare is my primary gamer tag. I used to go by sweet nitemare for many things, but that name was taken so KinkedNitemare it is. I like it better, it suits me. 😉
Q. We are getting a lot of readers outside the U.S. If you don’t mind everyone knowing, what country do you hail from?
I hail from the U.S., like Queen of Hell I am from Iowa.
Q. Gamer guild/clan affiliation?
Currently I have no guild or clan. It makes me sad I like that kind of group gaming. Hopefully I find a game that satisfies it soon.
Q. Console or PC? Reason for preference?
I love xbox 360, but because of all my travel I now do more pc gaming. Some of it is hit or miss for me, but I like all the indie horror games out there for pc.
Q. When did you start gaming?
Oh…I was gaming on Atari and Nintendo when I was very little. Never looked back.
Q. What got you started in the world of gaming?
Well since I started so small I must contribute it to my Step father. It was his Atari I got to game on.
Q. What is your favorite game?
Oh, there are so many I hold close to my heart. Though I must say any Gears of War or Halo are up there. Course lately you will catch me playing EDF (Earth Defense Force) 2025 and I pretty much love that game as well.
Q. Currently playing?
EDF 2025 and I have started playing Batman: Arkham Asylum because I’ve not played those games and the newest one looks amazing so I thought I’d better catch up.
Q. Most anticipated future release?
My husband would want me to say destiny so we can play together and it is a valid guess because I am excited for something that combines borderlands and halo cause that would be amazing, but I must say my own personal preference is horror games. So I am going to say The Evil Within, Daylight, Asylum and the next season of Walking Dead.
Q. Build your own or off-the-shelf PC? Any reason for preference?
Uhh I believe in build your own, but since I haven’t had a desk top in forever I have had to go with Alienware for my lap top. It isn’t terrible, but I miss My XPS I’m not gonna lie.
Q. Favorite game type?
Q. Favorite game character and what drew you to them?
Joker, but really who really can’t say that? He is acted so well and makes the game so interesting.
Q. Have you experienced any issues related to being a female gamer and can you share a memorable good or bad experience?
It is an unusual thing when people find out you are a female. In a seemingly male dominated hobby, they tend to get excited and give you attention…wanted or unwanted. I can say my best experience was in EverQuest. Had a guild where I was the only female and they all treated me like an equal. The worst experience is playing anything online on xbox live once they find out you are a girl.
Q. What advice would you give you ladies who are worried about sharing their love of gaming, or experiencing negativity because they have?
Haters gonna hate. The key is to not give a fuck. I mean seriously it doesn’t make sense to hide or even avoid something that brings you joy. Ignore the idiots. Find like minded people and that is getting easier and easier as women stand up for themselves and don’t hide their love for gaming.
Q. Finally, you seem to favor a lot of games that are typically stereotyped as ‘for the guys’, FPS games, violent action games, but you also play MMOs and RPGs where women seem to be more common. Do you see a difference in reaction or acceptance between the two communities, the violent action games and the RPG/MMOs?
I pretty much exclusively play FPS and violent video games. I loooove them. I do however enjoy a good mmo the interaction is rather nice or can be with the right group of people. I however am not a fan of RPG’s. Can’t get into Skyrim to save my life really…My attention span does not support it. lol.
I don’t see a difference in reaction or acceptance in the two. If a guy is going to hate on you for playing games it’s not really going to matter which kind it is. I just don’t usually have to talk to people if I am playing FPS and violent games so it doesn’t come up as much as it would when someone doesn’t like you in a mmo…mmo’s are built for drama if you let it happen and that can make the experience a major bummer.
