Shameless plug time! Yes, I’m here to talk about the Guild Wars 2 guild that myself and a few others have started. About a year ago I started work on a Neverwinter Nights 2 server with some friends, and shortly after I knew I was going to want a Guild Wars 2 guild that paid homage to that project. I have always wanted to work on a persistent world for Neverwinter Nights based off my ideas and writing. Long story short, The Darksong Knights sort of springs from some characters that exist on that server and in the lore of the Dungeons and Dragons world The Forgotten Realms. Lost yet? Yah me too.
Ok, let’s break this down easier. In Dungeons and Dragons, the Darksong Knights are an order of warriors that follow a moon Goddess, and are devoted to fighting demons. On three NWN2 servers now I have played a character, with several others, that follow that Goddess. From there it was just a matter of the name sounding pretty darn cool, and it being easily recognizable by people from the old server.
So, what are we? Well, we are a guild, a community of players, that get together and play Guild Wars 2, hoping to grow that community so that no matter what time you log on, there is always someone you know to play with. Right now we are small, and there is a lot of time played alone, but as we grow that will change.
We are a PvX guild, which of course if you don’t know much about GW2 you won’t know what that means. There are two basic ways to play GW2. Player versus environment (PvE), which means you go out, do quests, craft stuff, and generally explore the world and the story created for the game. Player versus player (PvP), which is the competitive side of the game, fighting in tournaments, PvP (obviously) and world versus world battles. We are PvX (the X represents a variable like algebra [algebra sucks]), so that means our guild doesn’t focus on either PvE or PvP, but encourages our players to play the way they want to play.
What do we have to offer? Well, we have a website at thedarksongknights.com. We have a forum set up there for communication with guests, non-members, and a members only section. We also have a facebook page at facebook.com/thedarksongknights, and a ventrilo server for communicating in-game without having to type.
We are growing, and we are still small as I said. We have our guild emblem in place, and have the ability to craft armor with the guild symbol on it. We are on our way to having a guild bank as well. New members will join with the rank of squire, so that they can get a feel for us and we can see how they get along with others. From there you will move up to Knight after a week or so of ‘get to know you’ time. Members who make The Darksong Knights their exclusive guild have the opportunity to move up to Knight Captain with more benefits and responsibilities in the guild.
Finally, our rules. We only have two but I think they cover all that needs to be covered. No drama, and no douche baggery. We come to play this game to have fun, get away from the rigors of real life, relax and enjoy each other’s company. We don’t want the type of drama that can sometimes come from gaming groups and games themselves. No harassing, stalking, in-game flings that lead to angry people storming out of the guild, etc. Simply put, leave your drama at the door when you log in. The second rule, most simply means, don’t be a jerk. If you think you might be a jerk, you probably are. If you are about to say something that you might read and think ‘hey, that’s kinda douchy’ don’t say it. We’ve all been new once, help the new people, don’t treat them like they are idiots. If you see a question in local chat you know the answer to, help them out. You never know when something like that will lead to a new member. That’s pretty much it.
So, there you have it ladies and gents. Come to the site and see us, or look us up in-game. We are primarily on the Sanctum of Rall server, though we won’t discount the possibility of having affiliates on other servers. Our forums are free to sign up, for guests and members alike, so you can hit us up with questions or just chat about the game. We hope to see you around.
