So, recovering from day three has gone better than expected. I’m sore, but I can walk. My back was on fire yesterday but not bad at all today. We spent the last day walking the convention floor, something I hadn’t done all in one shot on Friday or Saturday. I did some shopping, saw a lot of great new games, and fantastic artwork. While the art shot at GenCon isn’t nearly as big as Artists Alley at C2E2, the quality of art tends to be much better. We picked up a couple of pieces before we headed out to add to our growing collection. One of the great new games I saw was a Cards on Dice game. We’ll be taking a look at that tomorrow.
I also found out that my son talked to an author at the con and mentioned I had recently released my first novelette (Wastelander…link on left, go check it out) and the guy asked for a flyer. He grabbed one from my wife and handed it to him, to which the other writer said he would check it out. Gavin even got the author’s advertisement so I could do the same. It’s a series available on Amazon, as well as a few other markets, called Ameron Chronicles by Roger Sicely and Peter Lewia. I plan on picking it up and doing a review here eventually, though my reading schedule is packed I want to at least pick up a copy since he is going to get mine.
Speaking of flyers we got in a tiny bit of trouble. Turns out you can’t just hand out or set out your own flyers. “No Handbilling,” Julie was told while we were walking around the con floor. We were putting them out with other flyers on top of these garbage cans that were set all over. We just made sure we didn’t see any other employees after that point. At least, if they had to get rid of ours, they were conveniently placed on top of a waste receptacle.
Overall it was a great weekend with a lot of great memories. I’m glad we stretched it out to three days instead of the one we did before. I’m thinking less events next year, so I can spend more time enjoying the show floor, but other than that it went very well. I just wanted to wrap up the final update on GenCon with all of the fantastic cosplay that our resident photographer got for you. Soon she’ll be putting more photos from the con up on her site over at Artfully Distracted. Watch for that, and enjoy the pics below.
