I realized, here at Frags and Beer, we’ve gone nearly an entire year without a post about beer! I think I’ve mentioned beer, but not a single post that was focused on that great gift of the Gods, that sweet nectar poured down upon man by celestial angels above. I figured it was time to fix that so here are my thoughts on a beer list for gaming, sort of like a wine pairing list for food at a restaurant.
Role Playing Games
When I want to play a relaxing RPG, I like a relaxing beer. My favorite for this would have to be Guinness. It’s a slow drinking beer with great flavor, perfect for sitting back and just chillin while you play your favorite story-based RPG. Make sure you get the tall cans, not the bottles or, Gods forbid, the extra stout. Pour into a heavy glass and enjoy.
First Person Shooters
When I play a fast and furious game of BF3 or any other FPS, I like a light-colored beer (not a pansy lite beer, that’s swill!). Corona would be one of my favorites for this. Crisp and cold, and goes down quick and easy…heh (family show remember). Anyway, I like mine with lime of course, but if you want an extra kick, top off the neck of the bottle with a shot of lime vodka or rum. I don’t know about you but I play better when I’m nearly drunk.
For these types of games I like something in the middle. A good sipping beer with a hearty flavor, and a bit of a bite. For me the obvious picks would be Newcastle, or Killians. Both have great flavor, and are good for sipping or taking long, refreshing quaffs of. Both are also excellent with spicy snacks and/or pizza.
A good beer for any category would be something of the wheat, white, hefeweizen variety. Bouelvard Wheat, Blue Moon, and Erdinger are among my favorites there.
Short post, but hopefully helpful.
